Bumblebee

Bumblebee, 2018 film starring  Hailee Steinfeld, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and John Cena.  A prequel tail of how Bumblebee arrived on  Earth before Prime and the gang.

Set in Earth year 1987 Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town.  He had been sent to Earth by Prime to prepare and wait for their arrival.  Enter Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), a young girl trying to find her place in the world.  She finds a yellow VW in a junkyard and takes it home.  She soon brings the car to life and immediately discovers that this is no ordinary bug.  She dubs him Bumblebee and the two become friends.  It is soon evident that some Decepticons discover where he is and try to kill him.

I was on the fence on whether to keep this one at a three star but at the last second jumped it to a four.  Simply because the story was good, how bee came to be on Earth etc.  The one problem I had, especially at the beginning and when the two Decepticons came to Earth, was the CGI!  It almost looked like everything was CGI, too much!  I thought I was watching an animated film during these particular times in the film.

It was evident in the first Transformer movie that Bee liked humans and in this film it gave us the answers as to why.  The story was not meant to be start to finish action like the other films but a story of a relationship between new friends, how Bee got his personality and how Autobots and humans became friends.

It was a good watch, one worthy of being repeated.  It was slower than other Transformer films and there were some non funny, lame type humor but looking beyond that I got the big picture of Bee.  So, after Bee left Charlie, where did he go?  It was, after all 1987 and Bee didn’t meet Sam Witwicky until 2006, almost twenty years later!  Another story perhaps??
