The US Department of Homeland Security is led to believe an American teen hacker playing a terrorist-attack simulator game online is a real terrorist and is out to destroy the country. The kid, Will Farmer (Lanter) is on the run to save his mother and himself from imprisonment.
Not bad but not great either! The acting was just ok but the story was a bit much, has many holes in it and I considered it a bit boring. They tried to explain what happened to Faulken, somewhat reasonable I guess but Lanter’s character knew all about the ‘WOPR’, how? this was a highly classified program in the eighties and would have never been made public, especially after what happened in the first one. I know the kid was a hacker like Broderick’s character in the original but they never showed him or even hinted that he hacked into the military.
Even Homeland Security should have realized this was a mistake after ten minutes investigating it! No, I can not give this any high marks and to me doesn’t belong in the category of ‘WarGames’. One of the poorest sequels I have ever seen. If you haven’t seen it, go ahead but you shouldn’t have to pay for this one! It doesn’t belong on any watch again shelf, it’s definitely not on mine.
