50 First Dates, 2004 film starring Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Rob Schneider and Blake Clark. Talk about forgetting your last date!
Henry (Sandler) meets Lucy (Barrymore) one morning by chance when his boat breaks down and he ends up at a breakfast joint waiting for help. They get to know one another and have fun. When they part they agree to meet again the next morning at the same restaurant. When he gets there, sits down and talks with Lucy all hell breaks loose. She doesn’t know him! Turns out she had been in an accident a year earlier that has taken he short term memory away and she can only remember life up to the day before the accident. Every night she goes to sleep she reverts back to the day before. Henry, believing he has met the woman of his dreams vows to make her fall in love with him every single day.
Cute film, had it’s funny moments and it had it’s emotional moments. Sandler’s character being a medic for the aquarium brought us some good laughs with the seals, penguin and dolphin’s. When Barrymore’s character first discovered her life was not real she portrayed shock and fear so well that I felt emotion. Sandler and Barrymore always work well together and this film was no exception.
The writing was actually very good. They had to come up with a way that someone who would remember absolutely nothing the next day could enter a serious relationship, get married and have kids! No easy task. This film was refreshing, funny and very entertaining throughout. It was a love story where you could see the love grow and strengthen. To me Sandler has never been that great in anything Romance but I found that he actually did a great job in this one.
Very Re-Watchable film, great job! Fabulous location, love Hawaii!
