Daddy’s Home, 2015 film starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Linda Cardellini and Thomas Haden Church. A toned down Ferrell vs a pumped up Wahlberg!
Brad (Ferrell) is a married man with two step-children. He has been working hard to become someone the kids love and trust and he is almost there. Then one day the wife’s ex-husband calls, who has not had contact with the kids in six months plus. Brad reluctantly allows the ex, Dusty (Wahlberg) to stay with them not realizing that Dusty wants his old life back and will try to push Brad away. What ensues is a competition with some hilarious results.
Funny stuff though I think Ferrell has toned down his slapstick comedy approach to films. Like I said in my review of the sequel (which I have no idea why I did first) hard to believe that Wahlberg could do comedy. I give this film some coo-do’s though, it was the first and was relatively fresh. The story was good and the choice of actor’s was right for this.
I think the film shows Wahlberg’s diversity in acting styles and unfortunately show’s Ferrell’s slipping comedy styles. It was good, it was watchable and entertaining but how many times could you sit through it? Myself, not so many. I give it a four because it was entertaining and funny but more over as a one time thing.
