I’ll Be Home For Christmas, 1998 film starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Jessica Biel and Adam LaVorgna. Oooh, it’s that time of year, well soon anyway. Stumbled upon this one in my collection and gave it a go.
Wise cracking, innovative college student Jake (Thomas) is told by his dad that if he makes it home for Christmas then he will get the family Porsche. Just before he is to leave with his girlfriend Allie (Biel) he is knocked out by some angry college mates and left in the desert … in a glued on Santa suit. With no money or ride he must make his way from LA to New York. Along the way he learns some things about himself that eventually changes his entire outlook.
Now there are many films with the same title some good some just eh! This one was pretty good. We can identify with Thomas’s character as we were all likely the same back then. You know, didn’t want to hang with family and just have fun, far away! This film’s underlying message, to me, was that family should always be on your mind and more important than your own selfish needs.
The film was good, funny, Thomas plays a great part, smart ass kid like he was on Tool Time. Biel, wow was she ever young in this one but you could tell by her acting that she was going places. The story was a good one, not unique but pretty good. I would have to say that this film qualifies to be added to may watch every Christmas library.
Yes, it’s almost that time of year again so you will likely see more Christmas films pop up. Nothing better that sitting in from of the tv and watching a good holiday film in December.
