With the Kingsman all but destroyed Eggsy (Egerton) and Merlin (Strong) make their way to the US where the discover another secret organization (Statesman) who they band together with to help fight Poppy (Moore), an evil drug lord living in ‘Poppyland’ somewhere in the jungles of Cambodia. The statesman had also recovered famed Kingsman Harry Hart (Firth) who has amnesia. Poppy taints all recreational drugs throughout the world and unless the government agree to her demands everyone suffering will die.
To me this film was more comedy than action and Elton John, who was a captive of Poppy, was absolutely hilarious in this and that tipped it in a good way for me. It was like watching James Bond head on crash into Austin Powers! Funny stuff. Moore was a good villain in this as well, who knew she could do it? The casting was strong, the story was good and funny and the effects were also pretty decent. The film itself came off pretty decent though it will never meet our expectations left by the first one.
The film did not seem to garner very good reviews on most sites for several reasons. It was not as good, too many sub plots, silly etc… but I disagree. I found it very entertaining and yes, I think it was meant to be somewhat silly. The producers knew they were not making a classic spy film, they just went out for the fun (well, a few bucks doesn’t hurt either). So, I give this a four because I laughed and enjoyed the ride, decide for yourself.
