Snowden, 2016 film starring  Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo and Nicolas Cage.  Scary what data can be collected on us yet we still let them get away with it!

Based on the books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena.  It tells the true story of how Edward Snowden (Gordon-Levitt) leaked thousands of classified documents from the NSA (National Security Agency) when he came to conclusion that they were ignoring the peoples rights.  Not just around the world but within the US.  The NSA collected mounds of digital data on millions of Americans without their knowledge.

As history shows us when he decided to leak the info to the press he became a hero to some but a traitor to the US.  You decide!  I believe he still lives in exile in Russia.  If this is true what they can collect on us, and I have no reason to believe it’s fake then the ordinary peoples liberties and rights have been taken away.  Some say we must give up some rights for security but I do not believe that.

Not only is this film gripping and true it is also eye opening.  Mainstream media at the time painted him as a treasonous individual that was looking to gain from it but that is not the case.  The film did garner some low reviews but you have to ask yourself why?  Were they just from government employees who were told to?

The film also shows a documentary film maker taking this all in as it unfolds and is also out.  The information Snowden leaked out is undeniable and I think even the president at the time did not even discount it.  Certainly wants me to put tape over the camera on my laptop!!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt played this part perfectly, I can not find anything wrong with the film.  If you haven’t seen it yet I would say it is a must.  This was my first time seeing it and …  wow!  Scary shit really!!
