The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank Redemption, 1994 film starring Tim RobbinsMorgan Freeman and Bob Gunton.  Pretty good jailhouse movie from back in the day.  Freeman ever look young in this one.

Andy Dufrense (Robbins) was convicted of murder, one he didn’t commit and is sentanced to Shawshank Prison.  He soon bonds with Ellis Boyd ‘Red’ Redding (Freeman) and they become friends.  It is about how Andy deals with life in prison and how he makes it better for himself.

I thought this was a good movie and I would watch it more than once, yes believe it or not this was the first time I have seen it.  A lot of people call this the best movie ever and their favorite film ever, I don’t see it that way.  Not bashing, I just said it was good.  Robbins played a convincing part but I still couldn’t figure out the character!  I would have been super pissed at being jailed for something I didn’t do, he seemed to just accept it right away.  (Except for what he kept to himself that you didn’t see till the end!)

Morgan Freeman was very good in this film, his acting is always top notch and you can see he is one of the greats.  In this case there are no real visuals, just sets and costumes which they got right for the different time periods throughout the film.  The story was good and I can see why some really like it but it is not my top favorite movie.
