Dolittle

Dolittle, 2020 film starring  Robert Downey Jr., Antonio Banderas and Michael Sheen.  So so fantasy film more made for the kids.

A doctor who talks to animals (and they talk back!), who has been hiding from the world since his wife’s death, is tasked to find the healing tree which will save the young dying Queen Victoria.  With a new sidekick and his crew of animals he embarks on the journey to find the mysterious island where the tree is said to be.  They must be careful though, there are those who do not want him to succeed!

The story (which is not new) is just ok but we have to bear in mind that it is a kids film.  Some folks thought it would be like an epic adventure film with Downey Jr and they voiced their negative opinions when they saw it and found out what it truly is, hence the somewhat low ratings.  I sat and watched it and quickly realized that it was not really my type of film but then I put on my unbiased shoes and thought to myself,’ how would kids see it?’

I think the young ones, say 14 and under, will love the film.  It has adventure, fantasy, hero’s and animals that can talk.  What could be more fun.  I wish I knew what our pets are thinking, that’s for sure!!  It was colorful, magical and funny.

Downey Jr was not epic in this film, just pretty good.  His character talked to fast which to me made him inaudible in some cases.  The supporting cast was good and there were some great names as the voices of the animals.  Such as John Cena, Rami Malek, Selena Gomez, Octavia Spencer and many more.

Great entertainment for the young ones and that’s purely what it is, entertainment.  Those that gave it bad marks should realize that and who it was made for.

Your kids will love it, give it a try.
