Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again, 2018 film starring Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski and Pierce Brosnan. Another sequel tanks!!
This time around we find Sophie getting ready for the grand re-opening in honor of her deceased mother Donna. At the same time we see flashbacks to when Donna was young and see why she made the decisions she did and how she met the three dad’s.
Where do I start. Ok, Not as good as the original. Lily James played the young Donna and she sounded very good but the choice of songs for this sequel were crap. I didn’t recognize half of them. Then the ones we heard in the first were repeated here as well. Seyfried, Baranski and Walters were great, in my opinion the only reason this film gets a three from me else it would easily be a one or two at best.
It was nice to see how Donna met the three men and how she ended up where she did but that was it. The story had holes in it and I could not get into it. The scenery of course was marvelous but we need more substance to make a good film. To have Donna dead made the film one giant eulogy and not entertainment. What was the most insane part…. Cher as the Grandmother….come on. It was obvious she did it only for the attention and it looked like she tried to steal the show at the end…horrible.
As far as sequels go, this one was no good. Sorry, my opinion but uck!!!
