Aquaman, 2018 film starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard and Willem Dafoe. I have to say that this was one of the better DC Comics stories out there.
Lighthouse keeper Tom Curry (Temuera Morrison) saves Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) who washed up at his lighthouse. They fall in love and have a baby that they name Arthur (Mamoa). He learns at an early age that he is different. He develops his skills and is soon visited by Mera (Heard) from Atlantis and finally convinces him to go on a great trip, one that would fulfill his own destiny as King of Atlantis. He has a challenge to it though, his half brother King Orm (Patrick Wilson) who believes he is the rightful monarch and will stop Arthur at any cost.
As I said, I found this to be one of DC’s best creations aside from Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. I loved the story, we got to know our hero’s background which in turn gave us the reason for liking him.
The effects here were top notch and very powerful to watch though I question how one can speak under water like they did. There was a nice equal mixture of male and female hero’s in this film as well. The main villain, Manta’s (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) character was weak and the film could have done without it.
Though this film had a few flaws I still found it immensely entertaining and a great addition to the DC lineup. I’m sure we will see him again in film whether on his own or within the Justice League. Good fun, worth watching more than once!
