Just over two years into their mission the Enterprise and it’s crew stop into a remote Federation outpost called Starbase Yorktown. An alien arrives at the same time with pleas for help. The Enterprise responds and while trying to help is attacked by a massive wave of unknown aliens, the crew uses the escape pods and the ship crashes in a fiery mess. Now stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves fighting against a ruthless enemy that seems to know and despise the Federation.
So now that we have been introduced to the new time line and we have accepted it, the Enterprise faces out and begins the exploration of space. With that comes all sorts of new foes and adventures. This one was a good story. The only thing remnant of the original series was the original Spock and of course they had to incorporate the death of Leonard Nimoy into it. So now if there are any future sequels there will be no old Spock.
The acting was decent by the main crew and even by Sofia Boutella who played Jaylah and they had a pretty decent story to work with. The story was actually co-written by Simon Pegg who plays Scotty. As an action sci-fi film this one works well but again, as a Star Trek film it still falls short, especially with the fans that are still sore with the altered time line. I enjoyed it though but I have come to terms with the new time line. As I said in previous reviews of Star Trek, I am hopeful that they can find a way to go back in time and undo this mess. Now I know we all hope that but with the actors arguing with the producers (well, some of them) I am doubtful it will happen. Still, a good watch though!
