Commando, 1985 film starring  Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, Dan Hedaya and Alyssa Milano.  As one of our original action hero’s it was a pretty good way to spend a rainy day!

A retired special agent from the armed forces is forced by an old colleague thought dead to do a political assassination.  They kidnap his daughter Jenny (Milano) to make sure he does what he is told.  Unbeknownst to the bad guys John (Arnold) has no intention of doing it but rather getting his daughter back and making the bad guys pay.  Along the way John enlists the aid of Cindy (Chong), a stewardess just on her way home!

This film came out in the mid eighties when action films were still young and only a few did the job well.  Yes, Arnie was one of them and he did ok in this film but it seemed like the film was made to just show off his muscles.  Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the film but I think I enjoyed it more back when it came out when I was a young boy.  All boys back then wanted to just play war and get the girl!

The film had a good story but not a realistic one.  Like how can you kill a guy on a plane without at least one person noticing?  The story was about one man who took down an entire army with only a few guns, lots of muscles and spoke broken English!  Possible? … Well…

Schwarzenegger was of course pretty good, he was still learning the trade but didn’t find that perfect director till Cameron.  Milano was ok, I believe this was just her second attempt at acting but she did show potential.  Hedaya, well I thought he did great but I have always enjoyed his acting.

Overall, good film.  Took me back to the eighties when I first saw it and remembered why ‘little me’ enjoyed it.
