Elf, 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart and Zooey Deschanel. You can not start the Christmas movie season off without this flick!
An elf living at the North Pole finally comes to the conclusion that he may not be an elf, originally! He leaves the confines of Santa’s house and heads for New York in the hopes of finding his true identity. Buddy (Ferrell) the elf finds his birth father, Walter Hobbs (Caan), who happens up there on Santa’s naughty list. Buddy experiences the delights of New York City through the eyes of an elf and works on becoming a family.
You definitely have to be a Ferrell fan for this film. He is his normal over the top, crazy comic self. Fun to watch especially how he gets under the skin of Caan. Newhart is his dry comic self that we have all come to love over the years.
The film is or has become a classic yearly watch for many people. The story is actually pretty unique to a Christmas theme. This is what we need more of, imaginative writers and actors that can wow us, give us that new classic film that we can’t get enough of. This film was an all out funny and entertaining two hours. Ten plus years ago Ferrell new what to do, how to act to give us the best comedic experience and keep us laughing from the get go. This film is great for all ages, young and old alike will love it. For me, now that I have seen this, the Christmas viewing season has begun.
