Fred Claus

Fred Claus, 2007 film starring  Vince Vaughn, Paul Giamatti, Elizabeth Banks and Kevin Spacey.  Santa has a brother … that hates Christmas!!!

Fred Claus (Vaughn) is Santa’s older brother, he doesn’t like Christmas and his brother.  After he lands in jail the only way to be bailed out is by Santa who puts conditions on it.  Fred must go to the North Pole and work the Christmas season for Santa.  His girlfriend Wanda (Rachel Weisz) dumps him and he needs money so he reluctantly agrees.  He is given the task of reviewing the files of children and placing them on either the naughty or nice list.  Of course that gets to him and he just stamps them all ‘nice’ but Santa’s facing an audit from an efficiency expert (Spacey) which if they fail then the North Pole will be shut down.  After a few more miss-steps and a revelation Fred must help Santa save the North Pole!

To sum it up, Funny Stuff!  The story here seemed fully original and fun.  We are introduced to the two brothers way back in time and are given explanations as to why Fred is so bitter towards his brother.  The only part of the film that was never fully explained is what the company is that sent the efficiency expert and why they control the North Pole, the Tooth Fairy etc…

You will find this an enjoyable and entertaining Christmas film, filled with emotions and laughter.  This film is firmly on my seasonal ‘Watch Again’ list because it is funny and unique and the end goal is to make sure every child in the world gets at least one thing for Christmas and that family is the most important thing in the world.  I know it is for me!
