The Santa Clause

The Santa Clause, 1994 film starring  Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson and Erik Lloyd.  Mega hit from the nineties that has become a timeless Christmas classic.

Scott Calvin (Allen), businessman and divorced father has his son Charlie for Christmas eve.  During the dead of night Charlie hears something on the roof and wakes his dad up to investigate.  When Scott walks outside he is shocked at what he sees.  Santa walking on the roof towards the chimney.  Scott inadvertently scares Santa and he slips off the roof killing him.  The only thing on Santa was a card that said to put on the suit, the reindeer will know what to do.  Charlie convinces him to put it on then his whole world changes.  He flies around the world finishing Santa’s job and end up at the North Pole.  It soon becomes apparent the Scott has assumed the job of Santa for good!

This being the original in a three film series became an instant hit around the world.  The early nineties was only being introduced to this kind of film special effects and every film to do so gave their audience a huge wow factor.  To do so in a Christmas film became awe inspiring.  Tim Allen was very popular at the time and using him as Santa in this film was a stroke of genius.

Here we are near the end of 2018 and this film is as popular now as it was then.  This film and even it’s two sequels will easily stand the test of time.  I used to watch this every year with my daughter even after she became a high school senior.  The movie is watchable by every age and all ages do enjoy it.  The acting was great, the story was fantastic and the effects mind blowing (including the CGI, the costumes, the sets etc).  I have watched this every Christmas since it came out and will every Christmas that I am able to.  Can’t say more about a film than that!
