A Million Ways To Die In The West

A Million Ways To Die In The West, 2014 film starring  Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried.  Along with almost a million ways to make you laugh!

1882 Arizona, a cowardly farmer named Albert (MacFarlane) and beautiful girlfriend Louise (Seyfried) break up.  She sees no future with Albert but rather sophisticated and handsome Foy (Neil Patrick Harris).  The a mysterious woman, Anna (Theron) rides into town and her and Albert become friends.  She teaches him to shoot so he can stand up to Foy but the lessons he learned will have to help him fight Anna’s husband Clinch (Neeson), the baddest and fasted gunman in the west!

Well, right from the get go I was laughing.  You definitely have to be a MacFarlane style comedy lover to enjoy this one.  Like many of his tv shows and other films (Ted for example) the humor used is not conventional.  It is dirty, immature and sometimes gross.   There were a lot of racist stereotypes, sexual innuendo’s and down and dirty foul mouth language but that’s ok, it’s clear it was all mean to make us laugh out loud and it did.

If you are looking for a well thought out, classy comedy then you had better look elsewhere.  The comedy was of course not original but twisted to fit MacFarlane’s  vision and worked very well for his style.   He actually wrote and directed it as well but that is abundantly clear within the first few scenes.  All the actor’s did great and looked to me liked they all had fun with it.  I would love to see all the out takes for this.

This brand of humor is not for everyone but that does not mean it should have been butchered and taken apart by the critics, you have to review each film from the viewpoint of entertainment.  Did the film entertain me?  Yes, this one sure did. and it will be a definite ‘watch again’ film.
