Ad Astra

Ad Astra, 2019 film starring  Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga and Donald Sutherland.  With stars like these in the film it should have been better.

Astronaut Roy McBride (Pitt) is tasked with going to the outer limits of our solar system in search of his missing father, H Clifford McBride who appears to be behind the mysterious power surges that are causing deadly effects on earth and throughout the system.  His father and crew disappeared thirty years prior on a mission to find extra terrestrial intelligence.

As I said, the names Pitt, Jones and Sutherland in this film would make you think that this was going to be an epic film!  It was not.  More like a dysfunctional family in space.  Hell, Tommy Lee Jones was only in the film near the end and Sutherland only at the beginning.  The entire film was a self narration by the character Roy who was full of issues from his own personal life and his family.

The CGI and visuals in this film were outstanding and very realistic, especially in space or the moon.  With this the film should have been great but in my opinion the story was not sound.  Way to many unknowns.  Like, what happened to the crew they went to rescue while on their way to mars?  Oh yeh, we know they were all killed by crazy monkeys but no story behind it, hell, that could have been a film on it’s own.

Or how about the pirates on the moon, that would have been a great film right there but no, we had to endure a film with father son issues.  My biggest scratch on the head though was these power surges that were causing catastrophe on earth!  How does a guy looking for aliens cause this?  We are not told.

Sorry Brad, you should have read the entire script first.  Would not see it twice!  You decide though, was kinda worth seeing once.
