Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, 2014 film starring Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Andy Serkis and Jason Clarke.  Caesar leads the apes in this second installment of the series.

The surviving humans need power to run their city and Malcolm (Clarke) brokers a fragile peace between the apes and humans.  Some apes don’t want peace and lead by Koba (Toby Kebbell) they revolt against Caesar and attack the humans in their city.  After Caesar recovers from being shot he confronts Koba so that he can regain control and keep the peace.  Caesar’s goal, to have the apes be left alone to survive by themselves.

This was an excellent film and thank goodness the CGI world is growing at a quick rate.  You could not tell fake from real in this epic film.  I have always like the Ape films, especially the original ones and I loved the subtle references to the old ones in this.  As I said, the CGI was outstanding, blending everything together seamlessly.  The acting was great by both man and ape and the story just keeps getting better.  It kind of delves into the age old question of why we go to war.  Is it sparked by misunderstanding, is it stubborn pride or honor that will not let you back down or is it simply the creation of mistrust by those who only seek to rage war.

As sequels go this one was a winner which is not the norm for sequels.  To me this was the perfect continuation from Rise and they couldn’t have done a better job.  Very entertaining and realistic (effects that is).  This is what I want out of a film, to be happy that I saw it.  Fantastic job!
