Red Tails, 2012 film starring Cuba Gooding Jr, Gerald McRaney and David Oyelowo. Good war film but more so great film showing the challenges African American went through during those time. Based on a real story, a crew of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program are finally given bomber escort duty during WW2.
The men soon get the reputation of not abandoning their bombers to chase ‘Jerry’ and get more glory. The become the bomber crews go to team as the ‘Red Tails’ unit manages to bring home more than 80% of their charges every time. Soon the bomber crews and the ‘Red Tails’ are socializing in what used to be ‘White Only’ areas showing that segregation and racial tension can be overcome.
I tend to really enjoy movies that are based on history and true events and though I know the director’s use some creative license I am warmed by the fact that All men can get along no matter the color. The cast was good, the visuals were fantastic, the dog fights were very convincing. Good movie to have in a collection.
